I paint from the Light
and write from the dark
Happy Mother’s day -
I am writing a poem
Now that I have this out of the way
I can get to my painting

Murdoch and I participated in our first Juried Art Show at our local art gallery, MAC (Mission Arts Council). I had three paintings accepted and Murdoch had two. Murdoch was given an Honourable Mention as one of the best Student Artists for his painting “Forested Ocean”. Although I didn’t win any awards, I am honoured and excited about having my paintings in a show like this. Our art will be hanging in the gallery from May 2 – 19. This particular event is of great importance for me as it is all part of building confidence and believing in myself as an Artist.
Thanks to everyone who has viewed and commented on my paintings as it has encouraged me to get to this place where I feel really confident as an Artist. As you can see in the pictures, I think it has been good for Murdoch too.
I have since put in an application for an exhibit called “A Bond of Nature and Art” – “An exhibit by Mother and Son”. I will keep you posted on this one…
Hurt dripped through my door today
disguised in a bright blue mask
I’m pleased to make your acquaintance
and I’m here for a certain task
I’ll make your life much easier
and do most things for you
This way it won’t get messy
you’ll see your day right through
Hurt likes to keep things quiet
a scene he can’t endure
We must do all we can now
to ensure your home’s secure
Hurt cleaned up all the writing
put it neatly in a box
Paint and pallet off the table
and left to fold some socks
Now let’s make sure the children
have their schedules set in place
We wouldn’t want the neighbours
to find us in disgrace
The pain that has you acting
in a way that is so odd
Someone may come knocking
to bring you forth to god
Clean up those dirty dishes
and get yourself a mate
Four kids a dog a cat a mouse
you’re sure to find a date
And when you think of writing
remember what I said
Take that fucking shiny laptop
and smash it on your head.

I am not a pilot or a bird
But I can fly
Up here
Stuck
In this holding pattern
Only 5280 feet between us
You are not a tower or a tree
Yet you can guide
Down there
Stuck
With these regulations
Only fog and traffic between us
Ah – I am safe
Yet safety is the enemy
I circle around
And around
Waiting for the “go ahead”
Trust is in your hands
Like grains of sand
I see it all
13 billion feet below me
I am a saviour and a god
I jump…

I was inspired by Murdoch’s Clouded Colour & Joanna’s Statement for Easter Monday to repost this poem. It was my very first post, but not my first poem. Timing, although irrelevant, is the driving force.
